A snowy walk to Lac Lauvitel

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

To work off some of that Christmas excess we thought we would have a change from skiing & the turbo trainer!! and go for a walk. We couldn’t have had a better day, clear blue shies and not too cold. We donned our walking gear and got our ski poles to act as walking sticks. I thought Alan was mad suggesting the ski poles but as ever it was a good idea. The car park is situated about 4km from Le Velo Jaune b&b so off we went .

What a superb walk, it was great walking on the snow, a bit icey in places and the poles were a great help. The walk is basically 2.5km up hill, it winds it way through the woods and up the side of the mountain until you come out onto an amazing plateau with a superb view over Lac Lauvitel. The sun shone as we sat and had our pic nic, sandwiches, christas choclates and hot chocolate it was so peaceful with the only sound the gentle thaw of the snow.

It was then down, the fun part, you did have to be a little careful as the snow turned to ice. At what point Alan decided to sledge on his bum across a sheet of ice, he even scarerd himself as he shot towards the edge out of control, I laughed! What a great day, loads of fun and out in the fresh air!

Marmotte by Night, features in this weeks Cycling Weekly 16/12/10

Back in August we joined our friends from King of the Mountains and the Cycling weekly team to cycle the Marmotte route overnight. Yes it was a mad idea however it was an incredible experience, the scenery by moonlight, the camaraderie and sense of achievement.  The story is featured in this weeks Cycling Weekly and it certainly brought the emotions back of what was a great adventure. Bring on more like it next year.
