In the ski resorts of Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux Alpes you really wouldn’t believe it was April as there is so much snow! The pistes are suberb for this time of year, the best we have seen in four years and the locals are saying it’s been the best since the great season of ’99!
Ok we have had to put up with some grim days of rain and snow but with at least 4 sunny days a week we can’t complain. Blue powder days are what they’re called – who says you can’t learn new phrases after 40. I am not encouraging Alan to start wearing baggy snow board trousers with his pants showing though – a step to far I think.
We are now going to have to get the bikes out and start riding up those mountains in earnest, we have done a few rides but nothing over a couple of hours, I calculated (the danger of stats) we are a month behind in our riding on last year! Can’t complain though the ski season is to be enjoyed and there is still plenty of time to get out with our club, Velo club Bourg d’Oisans, climb those mountains Alpe d’Huez, Galibier etc – if rather slowly and enter some sportives. Time for a change of focus.
