Since being in the Alps I’ve always had to keep my winter training going with the turbo, some XC skiing or the fat bike, it’s usually March before the road bike comes back out of the garage. Well that all changed this year since joining UC Oisans and meeting some characters who are keen to stay on it all year, even if that does mean an hours drive away from the valley in search of snow free roads.
Thanks to my fellow winter riders, Gavin and John, I managed to get in my first road ride of the year, first ever club outing with UC Oisans and a few cols. Don’t be fooled by the photo, there’s many, many cols de Madeleine in France, and this one wasn’t even 700m! It was still a tough day out though, with the rolling countryside of the Isere valley having a somewhat Belgian feel. And thanks to a bit of a route stretch due to Garmin failing to give directions we managed to clock up 101km.
A great day out.
